Shakib Al Hasan Joins Lahore Qalandars Ahead of Do-or-Die PSL Clash
17 May 2025 | By Ask Qalandars Team
The wait is finally over. Shakib Al Hasan, one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket, has arrived in Islamabad to join Lahore Qalandars ahead of their must-win PSL 2025 clash against Peshawar Zalmi.
The high-stakes encounter takes place on 18 May in Rawalpindi, and the arrival of Shakib could not be more timely.
Shakib Al Hasan Arrives Just in Time
Shakib landed in Pakistan during the early hours of 17 May. This marks his return to competitive cricket after nearly six months, with his last match played on 30 November 2023 in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
Lahore Qalandars confirmed his arrival on Facebook, stating:
“Wait is over! Shakib Al Hasan has touched down in Pakistan.”
He is expected to play in the final group-stage match, where a win is absolutely essential for Lahore Qalandars to remain in contention for the playoffs.
High Stakes for Lahore Qalandars
The situation is clear: if Lahore Qalandars lose to Peshawar Zalmi, they are out of the tournament. A win will keep their dreams alive.
To strengthen their squad, Lahore Qalandars brought in Shakib Al Hasan as a replacement for New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell.
Importantly, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC), officially clearing Shakib to play in the PSL.
Global Stars Bolster Lahore Qalandars
In addition to Shakib, Lahore Qalandars have welcomed more international talent:
🇱🇰 Kusal Perera
🇱🇰 Bhanuka Rajapaksa
This star-studded lineup brings a fresh wave of energy, just in time for the final and most crucial phase of the tournament.
Clearly, Lahore Qalandars are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for a comeback.

Shakib’s PSL Track Record
Although this will be Shakib’s first stint with Lahore Qalandars, he is no stranger to the Pakistan Super League.
Here’s a quick look at his PSL journey:
2016 (Karachi Kings) – 126 runs, 3 wickets (8 matches)
2017 (Peshawar Zalmi) – 54 runs, 5 wickets (5 matches)
2023 (Peshawar Zalmi) – Featured in 1 game
Total in PSL: 14 matches, 181 runs, 8 wickets
While the numbers may not scream dominance, Shakib’s experience and leadership offer immense value—especially in a do-or-die situation like this.
