In PSL 7 (2022), Lahore Qalandars, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, won their first-ever Pakistan Super League title. This emotional victory ended a long six-year wait for glory and ignited celebrations across the Qalandars fanbase.
They began the season with a high-scoring loss to Multan Sultans. Despite posting an impressive 206/5, Multan chased the target and won by five wickets.
However, Lahore bounced back quickly. They crushed Karachi Kings by six wickets, thanks to Fakhar Zaman’s brilliant century—the first of the tournament. Next, they beat Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs, with Zaman Khan taking three key wickets and showcasing his death-bowling skills.
One of the most thrilling games came against Islamabad United. Lahore defended 174/9 in the final over, where Zaman Khan gave away just three runs—sealing a nail-biting win under pressure.
By the end of the league stage, Qalandars were in top form and finished strong. They secured a place in the final and faced Multan Sultans once again on February 27, 2022, in Lahore.
Batting first, Qalandars posted 180/5. Mohammad Hafeez played a vital knock, and Fakhar Zaman continued his dream run with the bat. Their bowlers then dismantled Multan for just 138 runs, earning a dominant 42-run victory in front of their home crowd.
Shaheen Afridi’s fearless leadership, Fakhar Zaman’s consistency as the tournament’s top run-scorer, and a lethal bowling attack featuring Haris Rauf and Zaman Khan were the driving forces behind their historic triumph.
